Any of you guys get rtcw to work with Vista? I played for about 2 mintues till is crashed. same with ET. Now when I try to open them is has the main screen and the sound looping. Stay away from Vista ATM. Trust me. Some of the people i've talked o told me to partition the HD.

Re: Vista
Can't say it's all the surprising considering the age of this game

Re: Vista
Sure it's not just a Punkbuster issue?
Re: Vista
It could be MAA. I'm not sure at this point i'm very frustated. I'm just going to throw in another HD and duel boot. Noe sure what to do.

Re: Vista
Well, with all the 'lockdowns' in Vista, I thought it might be a similar issue to the 'Inadequate O/S privileges thing' becuase Punkbuster apparently needs system level access to detect some kinds of cheats.
I'd try connecting to a few servers that don't run Punkbuster to test it out.
Also, set cl_punkbuster 0 in you config. Good Luck.
I can certainly do a test Vista install on one of my computers here and let you know how I make out with it. (It's definitely not coming near my main computer though, that's for sure)

Re: Vista
OK I tested this out..
1. Did a clean install of Vista
2. Downloaded the latest video drivers (NVIDIA)
3. Installed Wolf from CD
4. Ran 1.4 (full) update
5. Ran 1.41 update
Note: You don't have to do steps 4 and 5 if you have Platinum Edition
6. Ran PBSetup (to update Punkbuster)
http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe
7. Fired up Wolf
8. Enabled Punkbuster and connected to server.
Got failed Pure Check...Hmm alrighty then...also noticed shrubmod folder wasn't automatically created, so I figured I didn't have write permission to the RTCW folder, even as an Administrator! OK..so I gave all Users all permissions to that folder and manually created a shrubmod folder. Still didn't work, so I edited the Wolf Multiplayer shortcut and added +set fs_game shrubmod to the end of the command line)
9. Conected to server, no Pure failure this time...but...kicked by Punkbuster for Inadequate O/S privileges (Thought to myself, OK am I an Administrator or not?!)
10. Went into the Control Panel , under User Accounts, clicked on my account type..says I'm an Administrator...(must not actually mean Administrator anymore. I think the new interpretation of the word is limited user who gets prompts out the ass, just to find that even after allowing things, you still don't have the permission to use them. Nice)
11. Turned off UAC (User access Controls)..This basically takes you back to the XP version of an Administrator.
12. Fired up RTCW, worked fine, no errors, no crashes, and of course...no good frame rates either.
So, if you want to save yourself some headaches, do step 11 first (turn off UAC), then do steps 2-8. If you really feel you want/need UAC turned on, do up to step 8, then follow the directions in this thread for setting up the Local Policies for Punkbuter to work:

Re: Vista
Did you do an Upgrade or a clean install?
Have you tried starting with a clean wolf config?
Are you running 64-bit or 32-bit?
Is this a hard-freeze where you have to kill the process, or does it exit out on it's own?
LOL ZOG...I love some of those Mac commercials, some are blatant exaggerations, but this one is spot-on to the reality.

Re: Vista
Clean install of game of the year. Update from 1.33 to 1.41 and updated punkbuster. Froze on main menu. Uninstalled again and repeated. Works on main menu now, but it in slow motion it takes me 5 seconds to move the cursor from exit to multiplayer. I'm running 32 bit I believe with an Amd 64 X 2 4400+ only 1GB of ram. I have another 2 on order. I thought it was running slow like that because of windows firewall so I shut it off and tried it to no avail. I was just going to buy another 350Gig HD and run Xp Pro on it. It's only another 60 bucks. Visually i'm happy with Vista, but not functionality as of yet. I tried to install XP over it and it wont let me. I'm not that computer literate obviously. So I figured that would be the best step. to go duel boot. Or maybe just stick it out till they fix these issues.. or ever
